You've probably all heard of DPF's ( Diesel Particulate Filters) by now, but do you know what they are and what they do.

In order for Modern diesels to comply with the forever reducing emmision limits set by the EU, diesel vehicles after 2010 are fitted with DPF's. They are usually mounted within the front pipe of the exhaust system. There purpose is to catch the larger soot particles to prevent them carry on through and out of the exhaust system into the environment.
Once the soot content of the filter reaches a set threshold the vehicle enters a self regeneration process, which burns off these larger particles. In order to achieve this certain requirements need to be met. This is where the problems lies, the driving conditions in the UK makes it difficult to achieve these requirements due to traffic congestion. As a result many DPF's do not regenerate correctly and then reach a phase where the soot content is too high, restricting the exhaust flow and the vehicle is forced into Limp Mode.

The cost of replacing a DPF can be anywhere from £600 to £2000 !

The good news is that there are now ways that this can still be remedied without the need to replace your DPF. We can carry out a Terraclean DPF clean for you, in most cases even if your vehicle has gone beyond its regeneration threshold.
